Metal Halide Over an Acrylic Tank?

Is such a thing possible? I am considering a canopy that is 16" tall. Can I get away with it? At present, I am considering a 130 gallon tank.

I have an acrylic tank and two 175w metal halide lights (aqualight pro) but havent set it up yet. Hopefully this weekend.
