Is there any types of Starfish that would work inside of a reef tank setup? I do not trust the people at the pets store to tell me anything correct.

Linkas are good as well as marble sea stars. I don't care that much for brittle stars and their cousins the serpant stars because they sometimes can inflict pain to our presious corals. Ben

I have not had much luck keeping Linkias alive in my reef tank. I've had a couple of Serpants for almost a year, which are doing well. Be careful with the brittle stars, especially the green ones. They get huge and will eat fish and small inverts. I also have a sand sifting star, but there's lots of debate on RC about their value.

I also have a sand sifting star in a 10 gallon. Seems to be doing great. But I keep reading here on RC, that they are not good. Anyone have experience with these stars?

I have a linka in my 55g and he is doing well just drip water in a bucket through a air hose and aclamate him real slowly. after that you should not have any problems.

I used to have a sand sifting star, but it ate out all my microfauna.

My Linckia Multiflora is doing fantastic. Got him from Reefermadness back in June '04. He already dropped a leg and it has regenerated.

What is microfauna? If it ate it all, does that mean it starved to death??

ate out most of the pods and worms in the sand within 3mos, not that I had much to start w/ at the time. yeah, it did die.

Would a refugium help keep the star fed?
