Hi guys -- Is this the pedal/foot of my H. malu? I inherited him bleached, and I'm hoping he'll get some color back eventually. He's been looking good, but this morning, he had this shell thing up. Don't know why. Don't know what it is.

EDIT: You can see a larger image at http://affablereef.fotopic.net/p11254181.html. If you click on that pic, you'll also get a 1200px wide image.

Is it literally a shell? Could it have forced it up through the substrate? That said, it also looks a bit like stretched tissue. I wouldn't worry too much unless it's pushing this thing out of its mouth. Looks like it will be a pretty color blue.

Jeez..., I'm such an idiot. *IDIOT* /NapDyn

Yeah, BMB, that's just some clam shell he pushed up. With my profound knowledge of anemones, anyone want to lay odds on this guy lasting another month? :P

didn't look like it was part of the anemone, but sure looks like nice one

Cool. Always nice when it's something easy. Have you checked the lighting requirements for your malu? There's an anemone faq around here somewhere if you're wondering about how to keep it happy.

Yeah, I've read through that FAQ..., very useful. I have it in a 5.5g right now under 18W (coralife 9W actinic, 9W 10K). Light is right above it, and I think it will be good for the next couple weeks before I move it into the new 20-long (which will be under 2x65W Coralife). I actually haven't seen any other signs of problems from it, no expelling stuff from the mouth, eats quickly and heartily, mouth is closed, etc. Maybe I'll keep it alive.
