How much mechanical, biological and chemical filtration is required when running a DSB system, FOWLR, soft corals in the future?

75 gal., 29 gal. wet/dry sump, shooting for about 900 gph after head loss, scwd, etc.

I was origanally going to use a bio box (@3 gal.) but started wondering if it could handle a 900 gph flow.

What do you think?

You can read more about a functional DSB here (http://gutfeeling.mine.nu/my/dsb.html).

I'm not sure the sand could handle that kind of flow in your tank. The sand (silt actually) needs to be very fine. You also need to reseed the bed from time to time (say once a year - depends).

But to answer your question. I think a well maintained DSB of that size could cope with the bioload. It would be up to you to do the water changes, skimming and export via biomass (but not a 10g fuge :) ).
