Hi all, I have a 10g reef newly set up, and have a hitch hiker i would like to ID. I have searched the boards, but I havent found this creature as yet. this guy is about the size of a pea, very black with a pale yellow diamond oval color centered down its back. This diamond appears to be different sizes at different times. I have seen antennae and it appears to have a mantle. Active all day but stays on underside of rocks.
I asked at the LFS when i saw one there and was told 'lettuce nudibranch' and it eats corraline algae. Thanks in advance for any info and I will see about adding a pic tonight.

if it is what i think it is, they are fine. it's called an elephant slug. the light spot you see in the center is his shell showing through, sometimes a lot of it shows, sometimes very little. your 'different sizes' comment is what makes me think it's this, though it could be a nudi (they come in every shape and color you can imagine).

lettuce nudis do not eat coralline, they pretty much only eat bryopsis (a kind of hair algae).

Thank you guys. It is an elephant slug. I am SOOO happy i can keep him. I love that i was told it was a lettuce nudi too. Not really. I knew in the store when he said it he was wrong. Oh well. I am happy. I would like to post a pic but my buddy is currently MIA. As soon as I find him I will post him. Anyone see what an average lifespan was? If this guy grows to 6 inces like it says i am wondering how long it will take. Thanks for everything guys!!
