Philadelphia water from MY FAUCET in my apartment: 514ppm.

That is above the EPA standard for drinking water.

Glad I have my Brita and my new RO/DI.

If its above the EPA standard, can't you call the water agency about it or something?

I think my faucet here in sacramento is like 60 or something.

I think I will put a call into the water company.

It might be the water or the pipes in my apartment.

Maybe I can get a free months rent out of this...hmmmm

That is nothing. The TDS out of my tap water here in AZ showed up at 1100! :eek2:

Good thing we have bottled water delivered. I measued it and it came in at 30.

My RO/DI unit knocks it down to ZERO!

That is pretty high, but I've heard of some people here having 800+ TDS. I was really surprised at mine, we get our water from a spring/ditch water runoff (yes I know that sounds strange, and for those that are wondering yes some people get sick from drinking our water) with out any filtration and the tap usually measures between 80-150 TDS.

There isn't much you can do about High TDS leagally. This is because it is considered a Secondary Drinking water Regulation by the EPA. As long as your water meets the Primary Drinking water regulations the EPA considers it safe to drink. It just might not look or taste good. Like the water out here. :mad2:

Here are the noticable affects of TDS above 500:

hardness; deposits; colored water; staining; salty taste

Regarding your Brita - do you even notice a difference? I have a tap water filter than WASA handed out to District of Columbia resident following lead content scares last year and it has no effect. Has anyone else noticed a similar problem with Brita or PUR filters?

Here are some interesting links:

Water reports per state and county/city:

Per EPA website "Water with between 0 and 500 mg/L TDS is considered to be suitable for human consumption."

Kent Marine Hi-S RO brought it down to 1... is it worth adding a DI unit? :)

600 in Corpus Christi, Texas. So far all I have been able to get it down to is 7 with my brand new 6 stage water filter from aquasafe. Is this normal or is something wrong that needs to be fixed. It came out at first showing 600, then around 280, then 70, then 16, now 7. It is brand new and has been running steady for an hour and a half. I flushed the first 3 filters for 10 minutes before hooking up the other 3.

Are you running the water through the last carbon filter (does it have 3 "tubes" on top? If it does the last one is a carbon filter for drinking water)? If so don't, that is most likely your problem...and don't worry your not the first to make this mistake ;).

Yep. Thanks. I'll take off the last filter. Is the last stage bad for tank water other than raising the tds a little?

I'm not really sure..never experimented and haven't heard of anyone trying it either. Not quite sure just what the last carbon filter adds to the water, but I always figured that since I can get 0 TDS water why try to use higher TDS water?
