As the title says I'm using Randy's recipe #1 baked baking soda to raise dKH but it is also spiking the pH too high (8.6). Can I add vinegar directly to the baking soda mix or at the same time as adding it to the tank?

20ml of the mix raises my dkh by .6 dkh and ph by .3 and I'm only at 7.0 dkh now and 8.6 pH. Man I wish I had a pH probe to watch the movements more accurately.

Why not just add baking soda without baking it. Wouldn't that have less of an effect on your pH?

I agree. Just don't bake the baking soda. You can use the existing baked stuff alongside some unbaked stuff so you don't waste it.

More aeration will also help.

Also, you can add vinegar directly to the aqaurium, or possibly to the alkalinity part.

Perfect.

Thanks to both of you.

You might try the baking soda, if you are looking to save money. :)
