Randy,

I just read this this morning. This helped explain a lot about my lowered pH in the mornings:

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-09/rhf/index.htm

I realize now that I probably have elevated CO2 levels in my air. I live in a music studio which has double doors, soundproof walls, and sealed windows. I believe that the place is small enough that my own CO2 from me sleeping at night actually lowers the tank pH. It has been cold so I have not been keen on leaving the door open. When I go to work, I leave the door open so that in combination with the tank being lit makes the pH go as high as 8.3. It is 7.9 in the morning.

The air inside is also humid due to tank evaporation, which I think means that the rate of evaporation would be less than it would be in drier air. This means less kalk to topoff, which also means lower pH.

You're welcome for the article. :) From what you dsay, it does seem as if CO2 in the air is the problem.

Perhaps you can increase evaporation with fans?
