i just got this in an email and being unilingual, i need
one of our spanish speaking members tell me what the
heck it says?

"que ondes, tio? como estas ustedes?"

I am a little out of shape with my spanish, but this appears to be in very poor spanish to begin with.

The first part is a question about your aunt. (not sure what is is because I don't recall what "ondes"means, and I can't find it online. FYI "tia" is spanish for aunt.

The second part basically asks "how are you?"

Que donde, tio? Is something like "Where are you aun?" "How are you?"

can't remember the rest - been since '88 when I had a spanish class.

I though it said Tia, not TIO. My mistake.

I have not heard of TIO meaning old man, but you may be right as it has been awhile.

I do know that TIA can be used for AUNT and TIO can be used for UNCLE.

I'll take a stab here, but If ondes referres to wave, it MIGHT be loosely translated to shake?????

That being the case the entire phase could be:

What's shakin' uncle? How are you?
or
What's shakin' old man? How are you?

Just guessing.

so am i correct in reading it as 'what wave uncle?'
if that's right, then i'm as stumped in english as i am in spanish :confused:

"ondes" is more likely a misspelling of "onda" and the translation would be "What's up, Uncle?" "como estas ustedes?" is also incorrect, but the writer, I'm sure, is trying to convey "How are you?"

So....what's up, Uncle? How are you?

Maybe it means "I am going to hold you down and beat you until you say uncle" :-)
