Is it possible to add too little kalk to an amount of water? Not in respect to not maintaining levels, but can there be any negative effects (in say top off water) if you use too little of kalk?

Too little of limewater may be too little to increase any of calcium or alkalinity or pH, and too little may also allow what is added to the limewater to react with dissolved CO2 in the fresh wtaer to form clacium carbonate.

That said, there is nothing wrong with using small amounts to see small effects. :)

Sorry, really should of added this question to my other thread 'pH questions'. I saw another chemistry guy on another board mention something about adding a small amount of kalk to a larger volume of water, but I didn't quite understand it.
