:mad:

grrrr. I just mixed up a 25 gallon batch of IO (new bucket) and noticed that the clarity was not real good, kinda hard to see the bottom of the trash can. So I decided to test it before adding to my tank.

SG = 1.026
Alk = 16 meq/l !!!
Ca = 380 mg/l

Within 30 minutes the water looked like milk. Anyway, I'm really glad I tested before adding to my tank!

Anyone know if there are batch numbers on IO buckets? There are a couple UPC bars but I can't find anything else.

You are not the first Jon, who has had IO with the Alk through the roof. It was brought up here months ago :D

Yes, there were some batches of apparently bad IO with high alkalinity.

I guess all's well that ends well... the store took the bad bucket of salt back and gave me a new bucket. It mixed up to 4 meq/l.

But, this has me questioning IO's QC. I've always viewed IO as a market leader. As such I always figured they probably had these sorts of issues figured out. I mean they've been doing this for years now. It really makes me wonder about some of their other constituent salts that are not so easy for the hobbyist to measure.

... looking for an ISO 9001 certified salt :D
