I have a 46 gallon bow front tank, 1 96 watt power compact and 1 130 watt power compact with 65 attinic. I have the following equipment:

emperor 400 filter, change media and pads weekly
bio pack back pack skimmer with flow box
200 watt heater
3 power heads with spinning current makers
digital wireless thermonitor
test kits
refractometer

I have over 30 corals mostly soft and a few stony large(hammers, alveapora and pipe organ). All are doing great except for one toad stool leather and the alveapora. My salinity is .025, alk, 12.5(working on this), calcium is 425.

My big problem if it is a problem is the temp changes. Yesturday am the temp was 78.2. It rose to 81.1 by the end of the day. In the morning today it was 79.9. Why did it not go down to 78 with the lights off. The room temp is 68 . The night before it was cooler because we were not there.

Is it possible that the glass is holding the heat in? I need the glass because the 130 watt is a 30" and the legs sit on the glass.

Please help with your opinion or recommendations. I have about 5k invested and I get nervous. I have even tested all my test kits and refractometer at the lfs. Thanks, Brian

I don't think those temperatures are a problem.

What glass? The tank itself?

The glass hood. Temp has gone from 79.9 this am to 81.1 now. Thanks for your help, Brian

I'd remove a glass hood to increase gas exchange, and that might limit the temperature rise during the day, but up to 82 deg F is OK, IMO.

Thank you. I will do that and see what tomorrow brings. Thanks, Brian

Randy, I took the glass lid off and added a computer fan and the temp went down to 79 and has stayed there since. Thanks, Brian

You may need to do more in the summer when the room air is warmer and wetter (unless you air condition).

We have central air so the temp in the room is actually better at that time. Thanks, Brian

OK, that sounds good.

Happy Reefing. :)
