Hi,

Can anyone help?

I managed to find some Lab Grade Potassium Iodide (99.5% purity) in powder form.

Can I use it for iodine supplemention for my reef?

Do I just dissolve the powder with distilled water?

How much Potassium iodide to how much of distilled water?

TIA
:)

Yes, that can be used, if you want to supplement iodine (I do not choose to do so). Dissolving in fresh water is appropriate. That would give you the same thing that ESV sells:

They sell 1 weight percent KI in water (1 gram in 99 mL of water).

I've noticed that some iodine additives are stabilized with sodium carbonate. Why does it need to be stabilized? And how does carbonate do it?

I believe the thought is that at higher pH, the oxidation of iodide to iodate or even I2 is slower.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

You're wlecome. :)
