I was wondering if one went from a mogul SE setup to a HQI DE setup, would you have to replace the ballast, or just the sockets and bulbs?

Depends on what ballast you already have. If you have an HQI ballast already, there would be no need to replace it.

I believe they are Advance M58 magnetic ballasts, I bought the set up from petstoreliquidator.com I guess these won't work?

if you are thinking about upgrading ballasts you might check out electronics. they will be a bit more then the m80's but will let you run whatever bulb you want in the future. of course the m80's will drive the bulb harder resulting in more par
