I wouldn't use bioballs as it could add to the nitrates of the tank eventually.

Looks pretty complicated to me. I have a 3 year old 55G with a home made 20g sump. No skimmer. My sump is built to fit under a 55 stand, and divided into 3 sections, a large one in the middle(for live sand, algae and LR) and 2 small ones, one for the filter sock and the other for the return pump. I have rock solid water tests and haven't lost anything in 2 years. Oh, and as soon as I threw the bio balls out the winder, my algae outbreaks have almost completely stopped.

serious?

wow ... i have algae attacking too
so? shall i throw my bioballs?
and also ... if i have macro algae rite .... as mentioned
how would it benefit the tank?
