hey i am setting up a 125 in a few minutes and im using pvc for the plumbing and i need to know if i can use the purple primer on the pipes

It's safe as long as you don't drip it on the floor. :)

If you use the right cement, the primer is unnecessary.

Personally - I'd go with the clear primer if you're really picky. The purple makes for a shoddy mess unless you're VERY careful

You need to use a primer. Glueing PVC is a two part process. You will get a much stronger weld if you use the primer.

I'd let it set for a few hours before running water through it, at least what I did...you can definately smell the fumes for a while always wondered if they got into the water somehow if used to soon. IMO opinion, I like the blue better as I can see the glue job, the clear hard to tell if glued at all but I'll agree it is probably better looking.

I used to believe this - and worked in the swimming pool installation business (where it's code to use the purple primer). There are new cements on the market that make it unneccessary to prime anymore. Now - if the pipe is dirty, you should use PVC cleaner - but otherwise it's not needed anymore....
