I just came across this brand new ballast from a friend and was wondering if i can use it for a lighting system for my tank. here are the details of it. Its made by LUMUX

Lumux-HID Electronic Ballast Sound Rated: A
for one 70w hid lamp
120vac 60Hz
Line Current: 0.625A
Open Circuit Voltage: 700VPP
Maximum Case temperature: 90*c
ATHD < 10%
High Power Factor > 0.99PF

Fixture leads to lampholder must be rated for 150*C/600VAC.
Use 4KV rated lampholder

Ok thats everything on the front of this ballast. If useable what do i need to run it. Can i use it for a HQI retro? If not what style of bulbs and holders do i need

Thanks in advance for any advice i get from you all

I am not sure I have ever seen 70w metal halide bulb in the kelvin rating that you would use on a reef tank. You would probably want to be running at least a 10k bulb or higher. So most of the bubls that would be running with that ballast would be in the 4K range.

Aqualine Bushke (sp?) and Ushio make 70w DE 10k, 13k and 20k bulbs. They are mainly used for nano tanks. I don't know what type of socket you could use with that ballast, but if you could use DE then you'll have a choice of bulbs to use. Don't know who carries those bulbs, but ebay has them for about $64.00
