Hosting a website

Does anyone know how to host a website off of a computer at home or should i just go and buy one for 10$ a month?

What are you going to do on your site?
The one hammerhead recommended seems worth it for $2.95, especially if you're on a budget and just starting a site. The only concerns are bandwidth and storage, where they charge you extra if you go over. If your site takes off, thats when it's going to cost you.

I don't use any one of them, but you could try http://www.canaca.com/ or www.cinerhost.com. There are plenty of companies out there!

I pay $10.95 a month but it's not a base level account.

If you have broadband it's very easy to host your own but will generally get you in trouble with your isp.

Ok i bought a server from meccahosting. I made a website with microsoft publisher. Does anyone know how to uplooad the htm onto the site?

I use front page. There should be a choice to publish to the web when it comes up it will ask you for the Domain name www.xxxx.com and your user name xxxxx.xxxxx@domain name.com and your password after you login it will transfer all the files.

What files do i need on the site and where do i drop the htm file?

There should be a index. htm this is home page. Im not sure what you mean by where to drop it. The people at Mecca are great they will help you get it up snd running just send them a message that you need some help.
