Algae Maintenance

I seem to be getting alot of brown algae buildup especially where my sump returns empty into the tank. How much buildup is normal? Can I eliminate some of my scraping with particular snails & crabs? Thanks.

How long has you tank been up and running?

Tank had been running a year when I got it. I've had it running 3 months. Doing water changes every 2 weeks.
