If you had to do it over when you first started which one would you of use and what is the easiest to take care of for you?

honestly, im surprised even one person said crushed coral. it is indisputedly more work to keep a cc bed. without constant cleaning, it will get ugly - and if thats all that happens, youre lucky. many people experience nitrate problems if they have a cc bed that is not constantly cleaned. im glad i chose sand :)

I would skip on the live sand and go with dead one. I would avoid CC. But that's just me. And I would seed the bed with animals. See more about this here (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=118418).

My local fish store told me to start out with cc I did just the opposite and went with sand. I'm sure glad I did. I decided to do just the opposite of what they say to do. Your sure to get things right!:D

That's good advice. At the lfs the other day, an employee told the newbie setting up a new tank that they should go with an underground filter. Yikes. There's a reason the box is faded and covered in dust. Just don't trust them.
