I am working on setting up my 46 gallon reef. I am hoping to have softies, some sps, and clams. I am going to run an external overflow into my refugium, and then to a "carbon filter" i am designing. My return will run up into a SCWD and then into two return lines.I am also planning on having two 160 gph powerheads hidden in the rock to remove any think stuck in the back. For the animals i will be keeping, would a 600-700 gph return be good enough, or should i aim higher?

Thanks,
Alex

Sounds about right to me. 10x tank volume is usually the minimum figure given for circulation in a reef tank. You're more than 50% over that, and the SCWD will help keep flow random, which is important as well.

Sounds good to me.

I have a 46gal sps/clam setup in my office with a Gen-X return pump through a SCWD, then 4 x MJ1200's on a wavemaker. Since the tank has gotten really full I have found myself wanting more flow. Since you are going with more of a mixed reef you should be ok though. If it moves to more sps then you will want more.
