I understand that Angels of the same genus should not be housed together in the same system. I was wondering, though, about a Coral Beauty & Herald's Angel. Since the Herald looks more Tangish than Centropyge, would it be a problem? My tank is 135g & other inhabitants include A Sailfin Tang, Kole Tang, Lyretail Hogfish and a Yellow Corris Wrasse. TT

i would not consider adding these 2 fish to the same tank. they are both of the Centropyge genus. though they may not look similiar to you or me, the fish will disagree with our perception.

you've already got a yellow fish in the wrasse, why not opt for only the coral beauty?

I've heard of people keeping Centropyge angels of the same species in a tank although I haven't tried that myself. As to different species, as always it depends on the angels but it is possible.

I am not familiar with the herald's angel but the coral beauty is pretty tame and likely to tolerate another angel.

In my 250G, I keep a C. fisheri, a C. loricus, and a P. asfur. The flame chases the fisher's a bit but there is no serious fighting.

You'd need to keep an eye on them but you could probably get away with it.

i will note incase noone else has told you that in general the heralds angel is not a good candidate for captivity. in most cases, they slowly waste away until starvation. add this already dismal survival rate to the added stress of it having to compete with another dwarf, and i say you have little chance of getting it acclimated and eating well.

if you are planning on keeping 2 dwarfs together, i would add them at the same time. once one of them is established in the tank, it is unlikely that another can compete for space. a dwarf angels' home range is much larger than your 135g tank, therefore, it will defend it's turf aggressively. if by chance you can get 2 to co-exist, it is doubtful that either will ever display their natural behaviors because of their unnatural sharing of turf.
