There are a few more pics (from day 2 - present) on the website...click the little red house thingy above this post.

I think he's quite the cutie as well. Eats cyclopeeze and crushed flake.

He has adopted the plastic plant to host...I am pretty sure it was simply a lack of options!

Did you feed cyclops from day one or did you feed baby brine and then cyclops?

So you have to have your own rotifer and green water culture going first before your babies hatch?

Rotifers yes, greenwater no. I use Instant Algae's Rotifer Diet instead. Much better, super concentrated, no muss no fuss and way cleaner than I could ever get.

Awwww he does look so cute.. its too bad he's going to grow up into a mean and nasty bastard! (she probably by that time).

Out of curiosity what happened to the other ones in the tank? Did they just all die?

The other ones didn't make it past day 40 or so...not real sure why.

Thanx for the words of encouragement from everyone!

Well Lucky got new digs this weekend. He is now the ruler of his own 5gal tank. While setting it up, and preparing for the move- - Lucky once again lived up to his name.

While being transfered from his previous 1 gallon tank to the specimen container for acclimation to his new home. Lucky jumped.

Ended up in the garbage disposal side of the sink (Tank is in the kitchen). While the wife and I were freaking out, I get a flashlight to see if I could see him in there still. Sure enough there he was.

We kept a saltwater drip via a turkey baster going to him until I could locate the right tool to retieve him with. Didn't find anything I felt safe using. Then the wife had a brain storm...started going thru a drawer in the kitchen and out came the salad tongs...cheap ones...very thin blade shaped.

After a few misses, and turning lucky with a drip of water from the baster...I managed to get him up onto the tong and out of the disposal.

Into the specimen container, and acclimating to the new tank.

Total time: under 3 minutes. I can say though it seemed like 10-15 minutes....wife crying, pale as a ghost...my hands shaking...just too much fun.

Lucky is doing well in the Ocean of a tank (seems like it to him anyway)...just wanted to share...never give up, never surrender!

After the fact, it is kinda funny. Jumping thru hoops for a 3/4" fish...go figure.

Anyway Here are some new pics of him in his new home.

Fish sure can be tough sometimes.
I didn't think he was that small either. Now I know what you mean--5 gal is truly an ocean to him.

lol Hey, I LIKE the fake LTA. I've seen those anemones in stores, and they're not that large....he's just that tiny!

Well, she could be unsupportive of Lucky. She's just being a good momma. :D

Wow! Lucky is really a dare devil! I can imagine how difficult it was to get him out of the disposal. And I would have gone through the same panic mode as your wife...I can almost see it!

He's worth it - what a cutie!

Well, she could be unsupportive of Lucky. She's just being a good momma.

Too true, she did rescue him from the obvious danger zone that is my current growout system.

He's worth it - what a cutie!
Agreed! However if I sold him, I would have to ask over 700.00 just to break even at this point! Better be real dang gold in them thar bars!

More updates to come...he has settled into the 5 gallon nicely and has been exploring the xenia frag that I placed in there

k_kagy

Wow, hopefully your numbers will increase in the next batches and you end up with hundreds of "luckys".
lol, Gold bars--that would be something.

Well I want to thank all of you for the nice comments, sorta lost track of this thread in all the hub-bub around here.

Anyway-
Lucky is now over 14 months old, doing super and has new digs in the form of a 6 gallon Eclips tank, and yes there is another story that goes with that... seems the old Top Fin 5 Gallon tank had a flaw...the light hood caught fire and burned out the PC board that operated the fixture. So off to PetsMart I go...and return with new tank.

Lucky (or Luckie as she will now be known) has a companion from a new batch of babies that are not quite a year younger than Luckie is. A bit of a squable at first, then the next day all is well and peacefull again.

Luckie and Jr. are doing fine.

Thanx everyone!

We have had rain for 3 days now, off and on, its like a God send around her right now, we are way to dry.
Lots of flashes of lightening and thunder. I love it, but strange that one line is out and another isnt.
All we get on the other is static.

Well Luckie turned 3 years old last month! So I figured I better update the thread...especially since I cleaned the tank pretty good last night... Uneventful, no daredevil stunts, surely one of the easiest, least dangerous events in her charmed life. :D

If you need to catch up (I know it has been a while)
Lucky Turns 45 days old (http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=420210&highlight=Lucky)

...and now some new info...
Luckie has put on a growth spurt common with age and becoming female. Her mate (a year younger than she is) has accepted the role of male in this pairing. While I don't intend to breed these two, it is important to note that I have seen some nesting behavior for the pair.

Here is the happy couple "hiding" in thier cave (shot from the backside of the tank)
http://www.coraldynamics.com/images/lucky/happycouple.jpg

Here is Luckie out getting some food
http://www.coraldynamics.com/images/lucky/lucky3yr.jpg

Both of them out for a bite to eat
http://www.coraldynamics.com/images/lucky/lucky3yrmate2yr.jpg

All in all, now that She is not being moved around alot she has led a pretty calm last 2 years. Apart from the occasional cleaning of the tank we don't disturb them much. One thing that I really like is when I have to catch them, they are so used to human contact that I can easily catch them with a cupped hand. They almost swim into my hands when I am in the tank... ah the life of Riley!

I hope to update more often from now on...

Thanks for the interest...

Congrats and we miss you here.

I miss posting as much as I used to. I will attempt to do better. I don't mind posting answers when I can to help others, but as a RC Sponsor, I feel a little wierd posting "me" type stuff.

Thanks again...got some good news on the horizon too...check the Fish breeding section Marina... :D
