Can you guys and gals post a few pics of your sump/refugium or point me in a direction that shows a few examples of this set up? Thanks in advance!

Wow! That's pretty high tech looking! Is that sump acrylic? Mine will be glass and the main tank is not drilled so I will be using an overflow box. Any suggestions on how I can separate my equipment from the sand?

take a piece of plexi glass and make it about 2 0r 3 inches higher than your sandbed, then epoxy it in place put your equipment on one side and your sand on the other.............. best of luck

Thanks holeinone! What's a reef safe epoxy that I can use to do this? Also, is all plexiglass the same? In other words, can I pick up any kind of plexiglass at any store? Thanks again.

don't have any pix of my refug but after a week of searching I decided to go with a modified version of http://northernreef.org/images/refugium_plumb.gif . Instead of two tanks I used a baffle in my sump and redirected some of my overflow into it with a spraybar and a valve. just remember to leave room for lights. Set up last week and works great. nice slow water flow through it and is pretty simple.

Here is a DIY out of a 60 gal tank. Not as fancy as everyone elses but it works great.

any plexiglass that you can get at a home depot or some similar store will work just get exact measurements and they will even cut it for free, then you can just use silicone to hold it in place, since this is not your display it does not have to be perfect. It will be as neat as you are, and functional. Good luck :smokin: :smokin:

Here's mine, it's just a 125g tank with 1/4" acrylic dividers from Home Depot. This is a picture right after I set it up. I've since added a LOA 65w light fixture and add a bunch of different macros.

Scott,
How big is your tank and sump/fuge?

Chris

Is it a DYI?

The tank is 245 gallons, 72"L x 24"W x 33"H. The refugium is 25 gallons and the sump has a capacity of 35 gallons, usually has about 17 gallons in it. I designed it and had a local acrylic shop put it together.

I'm considering making a NEW sump, refug, etc all in one to replace my glass 45Long.

could you explain (shadetree) what sizes your refu, sump is at

30 gallons yeah, I m curious total deminsions, I have another 45Long in my garage, I m trying to section it off in areas, get it drilled see how that goes vs building one.

I call this a nano-fugium. I set this up as an experiment to see if I could tell a difference before I spend the $ to go full blown. 5 gal rubbermaid with (3) 3/4" bulkheads. 2" SB and a cornucopia of macroalgaes.

Question for you all,

I plan on setting up a 125 gallon sump. I wanted something big, roomy and have space to spare. If I do this, I will be getting rid of my refugium. My question is, can I place about 3-4" of sand in the sump and also place some algae in there? I will have my skimmer, return pump and my in from tank lines. I plan on sectioning off my skimmer and return pump. Anyone else with any ideas ?

Here is my $10 solution. The lights I had from a tank I took down. The capacity is 33gal. I have 3 of these hooked together the other 2 are covered only this one is lit.

Wow, I'm impressed! So many variations on one theme! OK, next question....rather than separating my equipment from the refugium section of my sump, could I just run a refugium with live rock and calupera (and a light strip, of course)? The display tank already has a deep sand bed and I'm not sure if substrate in the refugium is absolutely necessary for it to function properly. Let me know your thoughts/ideas. Thanks all!
