Does anyone have any ideas that will help to enhance anything that we are currently doing in the club. If so please send me some PM's to advise of things you would like to see. Any ideas are good ideas.

I follow the club's forum constantly, and have found a great interest in the club. I really would like to be a member, but my work schedule would only guarentee a 50/50 shot of being able to participate in any club functions. Us firefighters up here are working 24 hours on, 24 hours off. If not being able to make all the clubs meetings is not an issue with MTRC, then may have some membership info? Not sure who to ask. Thanks..Dave

Dave

You can find a membership app at mtrc.org. It is absoilutely not an issue if you can't make all of the functions. It's more a 'come if you can and we'll be glad to see' you type deal. We'd be glad to have you. We try to meet at members houses to allow everyone to see the different system setups, but also to meet in different locations around Nashville to give more people a chance to hit one locally. Our next meeting is down in Smyrna. We'd be glad to see you if you can make it.

I was over at Emerald Bay yesterday, and an owner from on of the two larger LFS which carry corals in Knoxville was stopping by at the time. He was mentioning how many people he sees in the club there.

It might be neat to try and arrange a time when we could get a group and bring some frags to trade with them. Would have to work out the logistics, but would help to introduce new specimens for all of us at a reasonable cost. Maybe even just one or two goes, and we bring some there, and bring some back.

Just a thought anyway, but I can get the name and number of the guy easily enough to try and set something up.

I actually tried to arrange a regional trade one time before but no one seemed interested on this end so I drove up there by myself. I think the possibilities are much better now. I have talked to people from N. Alabama that would be interested and I think there might be interest in N. Georgia too. It has been suggested that meeting in Chattanooga might be a possibility and I think that could work. What does everyone else think? One thing that would be very important would be planning it well ahead of time to allow people to frag corals and get them ready and also to allow people to schedule for it.
thanks, Chris

The other cool part of Chattanooga is that Knoxville is a very short drive away as well, so we could potentially get N Alabama, Knoxville, N Georgia, etc. I will get the guys number this evening, and look over the forum to see what I can find....

Chris:
I'll definately make it, and will sell frags to those interested at very reasonable prices. Instead of bringing a bunch of frags, though, I'd prefer (like Art) if there were a place to post pictures and then have people request specific frags. I probably have about 50 species of coral right now in my tank, and fragging and not having anyone interested would be coral homicide in my case. BTW, I'd have a coronary if what I'm looking for were to show up!

I also agree it is a good idea to get requests. I guess I need to try to learn to post pics again:-(

Dave,
Didn't he fight for the British in the American Revolution:-)
I agree that finding those rare acros will be unlikely but you never know. I have gotten several from local trades that I haven't seen before...anywhere. I will probably mainly be looking for zoos and ricordea for my 55 and to get a little extra maintenance fundage.

Lord Howe was indeed part of the American Revolution on the Brits' side, but the coral is actually named after Lord Howe Island between Australia and New Zealand where it was first discovered. It is very difficult to find in this country, but seems to be easier to obtain in Australia and Japan.

I would also be an SPS geek that would like to attend. I'll start putting together a list of frags i will bring and what I'm looking for. Anyone in Knoxville up for a carpool? Also, there is a very large LFS North of Atlanta that has some cool stuff, Cappichino Bay (or something like that), maybe they could bring a few goodies???

EvilMel

Dave

11/04/2004, 06:54 PM
OK, I was searching all of my books and googling Acropora lordhowensis and couldn't find anything! The Acans are very cool. I have a small coral that may be some sort of Acanthastrea although it isn't all that much to look at right now. I can't remember where I got it but it was not doing too well and I got it for almost nothing. It was labled as a candy-cane but I knew it didn't look quite like one. It fell behind some rocks and I forgot about it. I found it a couple of weeks ago and it is looking sorta like some sort of an Acanthastria though I am not sure.

cee
11/04/2004, 07:17 PM
Yeah, I got a couple of Acanthastrea echinata frags which also aren't much to look at. I'm really not so good at IDing them, but there are some characteristics which make them distinctive. Send me a picture and I can do some "guessing" as to it's ID.

Just updated my photobucket page with some more eye candy for the SPS junkies out there. I could probably have frags of most of these available by January, although some in very limited quantities (like 1). Some are already in Nashville (how's the gomezi doing, Chris?). I don't want to start taking requests until we get a little closer, though. If you guys need any help setting this up, I'm volunteering to do whatever is needed!

One of the things we've discussed here at ETRC in the past is bringing in a "professional speaker". We'd have to charge a small admission to cover the speaker's costs, though. This might be a good opportunity to combine this with the frag swap. Any interest at your end? I've not tried contacting anyone yet, but if there's enough interest, I'll get the ball rollin'

The Gomezi is doing great. It's still a little small and has been spending most of it's energy encrusting. The coralites are an aqua color with a blue ring around the encrusting part. What level of light do you keep yours under. Mine is under medium. The MP blue looks great!

easttn,
If I'm not mistaken there are about equal amounts of traders/attendees from mid and east TN along with at least one from AL that has a large selection of corals. The thinking behind meeting in Chatt was that it would enable a larger amount of people from the widest area to attend and thus the best selection of corals. I don't know if that's what will actually happen but IMO Chatt is a good central location where no one has to drive too far:-)

Just need some specifics.

I assume the date is Saturday, January 15, 2005. I will reserve a room for the entire day.

What set up do we need?
Would we need any A.V. stuff?
What would be the "agenda" for the meeting?

I will make the arrangements if you guys need me to.

Here is a layout of the main floor of our Universtiy Center. I have asked about the Chattanooga Room and it is available. If you choose to have a speaker, then our auditorium is very nice and can hold 300 people. So, we could have a speaker there and the swap meet in the Chattanooga Room.

You have taken this a huge step closer to success. Having someone on site to coordinate the location is ideal & what a great location at that.

The agenda of the meeting is foremost a frag swap but if there is sufficient interest shown on the poll I'll do my best to secure a speaker & then we may need some A.V. equipment. So far an open room & parking is all we require.

There will be a number of people with extra frags. Hunt down fishdoc, for one. He will have a good number, I think. Some have posted pictures of what they have for sale/trade earlier in this thread. If you see something you want, PM them and let them know. Some already have everything spoken for. We hope to make this a somewhat regular thing (semi-annual?). Hope to see you there.

Sorry. Here is the thread where we have been discussing the trade more extensively.
