any good ideas how to "vaccuum" out the crud that has built up on the bottom of my sump. cant get a suction because it is on ground level. is there a good pump hose configuration that works well? Last year i used a sponge and swore never again... what a debacle.

Thanks!

I've used a diatom Filter without the diatomaceaous (sp) earth.
Just the filter bag and the filter, works great.
Which reminds me, I have to go out and buy a new one.

yeah I have/had the same issue, got a mouth full of sump water the other day. tried to rig a PH to suck it out, but I think that using a canister filter would work great..

./good luck

Try a cannister filter, or get a HOB filter and attach hose to it's input then you can vaccuum up the crap!

Oh yeah, there are these "gravel vacuum" things that is used mostly in FW tanks that are basically a long tube, but there is an airline running down it. The bubbles act like an airlift and suck water up, the water overflows out the tube into a filter sock, thus vacuuming your sump like a Hoover stand up!
