I'm from Canada and all the sand we
have at our home depots are target playsand (the dark brown stuff) and silica sand the fine white
stuff. But it says the silica is used for sandblasting. is that the same
thing you folks have there from where your from? And also what sand can't I
use?

I use silica. I use the white line marking chalk used for marking baseball fields, etc. It is pulverized rock. I bought it at Home Depot $3.50 for 50 pounds. It is very, very fine, so I mixed it 50/50 with aragonite sand. After 5 months I am very happy.

I decided against that Target playsand after using it in a test 10 gallon tank. It isn't fine enough. Also, it is very ugly when wet, whereas the marking chalk is bright white. I was also worried that the playsand may have some metals in it.

Thanks a lot Moviegeek. I'm so glad I can use that stuff. cuz the sand that everyone uses here ( crushed coral) is 40 dollars per 25
# per bag.

Thanks again

ps i'm also setting up an anemone tank with clowns.
