Tribles or Amphipods?

All my fish were taken out of my tank three weeks ago due to ick.
When I had fish I rarely seen the amphipods. Now they have multiplied 10 fold. I have heard they benefit the tank but what about now when I see tons of them and some might even be 1/3 of an inch long. My wife says they are disgusting and need to be removed. Do I have a problem with these or am I okay?

No problem at all. They're just consuming wastes at this point.

The reason why you didn't see so many before is that you had an incredibly high predator density (i.e. tons more fish per unit of area than on a reef.)
