Dr. Ron

This is by far the most interesting hitchiker I have found. It looks like some sort of Nudi or slug. It came off of a christmas tree coral i saved from petco. Any Ideas??
Thanks Josh

More info on him : He is about 2 inches long and about 1 inch wide. When provoked he flares those anemone tenacles like he is going to sting you (lets just say I used rubber gloves and tweezers to get him out). Also nocturnal, hates it when you put a flashlight on him (don't laugh I know all of you watch your tanks at night with a flashlight until the wee hours of the morning, lol)

Hi,

Classy critter!!

It is definitely an aeolid nudibranch, possibly a species of Phestilla. See the seaslug forum (www.seaslugforum.net) if you want to try to figure out which aeolid, specifically.

Phestilla and its relatives eat corals, so I suspect you will want to remove this animal and humanely dispose of it.

It will be harmless to you.

I was really hoping you were going to say he was reef safe. I hate to get rid of such a great creature. It is a very stunning Nudi in person. Thanks for your time Dr. Ron.
