I purchased a very nice "grabber" tool today and it looks to be constructed of aluminum and stainless. Since I would only use the tool for very short periods in the tank, would it be safe?

It is much more sturdy than the models I have seen that are sold for reef use.

Here it is:

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't risk it.

If for no other reason - if your livestock starts going down the tubes one day, at least you'll be able to say "well, it can't be aluminum." when you're trying to figure out why.

Not a problem. Aluminum is not very corroded in salt and it is not very toxic either, very much like stainless and short periods of contact will do nothing.

Now on the other hand, anything involving copper keep the heck away from the water or even touching something that goes in the water. Whole different ballgame with copper or copper alloys.
