1000 watt 10k Ushio on a 1000 watt Hps ballast

I am aware that a 400 watt 10k Ushio will work with a 400 watt hps ballast
Will a 1000 watt 10k Ushio work with a 1000 watt hps ballast?

The 1000-watt 10,000K Ushio will operate on a standard North American HPS ballast but not very well. The Ushio 1000-watt lamp is designed to be operated at 9.5amps nominal but a North American (ANSI S52) ballast is designed to limit current to approx. 4 amps. The lamp will be severely underdriven if you used a standard HPS (ANSI S52) ballast.

You should only use a European (high lamp current 9.5-10A) ballast but the 1000W currently only comes in 220/230/240 volts.

I have some Tridonic 1000 watt Osram HQI ballasts

Will the Tridonics run the 14k Hamilton ,their site says it will run on standard or hqi ballasts but I want to be sure

I was wondering about the hps though, since they are a dime a dozen at the police auctions.
Are there any bulbs that will operate on them that are also ok for coral.

I not familiar with any MH lamps that are good for reef setups that will operate on a 1000-watt HPS (ANSI S52) ballast.

The AB and BLV/Ushio 400-watt 10,000K lamps will operate on 400-watt HPS ballasts (ANSI S51). The arc current and lamp voltage is similar but the Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) and ignition voltage is lower then the lamps are designed for but should not cause any problems.

The Tridonic 1000-watt ballast should not be used to operate 1000-watt lamps designed to ANSI M47 spec. The Hamilton lamp has been designed to the North American spec. Using a standard North American lamp will cause the ballast to short out in no time and the lamp will be overdriven with over double the arc current it was designed for.
