About three weeks ago I took delivery of the 9 for $99 special from IPSF.In the bag with anthelia polyps there were at LEAST 20 tiny aiptasia. At first I was wondering if it was 2 different kinds of anthelia, surely it couldn't be aiptasia.Well after placing the shipment in my quarantine tank, they are absolutely aiptasia.I was extremely pleased with the rest of the order but in my mind I'm thinking he had to know what was in that bag with the anthelia.Anybody else find this?

Yeah,
About a year and a half when I ordered, I got some as well...Since they were pretty easy to nuke with some kalk, I didn't worry too much about them considering the life in the rest of the kit:)

Best regards
jim

Don't you mean IPSF instead of ISPF?:D

I also got some aiptasia from IPSF about 7 months ago. a couple of peppermints took care of it before it became a major problem, though.

Mine came from an IPSF package of bristleworms.

A few weeks ago I ordered from IPSF the 9 for 99 and I super sized it. I got two aiptasia that I killed with 1 TBS kalk to 1/4 C. water. Pictured below is something that came with the live sand activator and pod & bristleworms. Is it another form of aiptasia?
I will feed it the same solution if it is. This one moved around until it got into a hole in a rock that it liked.

Different color than what I've seen, but it sure looks like aiptasia to me.

Good luck nuking.

Consider it a freebee from Gerald. :D We have gotten Aiptasia in every order we have recieved from him, end in the snail larvae. I ended up with thousands of them in my tank but 32 peppermint shrimp did them in. :)

peppermints will eat the aptaisa yes, but what about the rest of your kit? They love to eat all kinds of infauna, they would love to dine on a fresh shipment from IPSF, making them a double edged sword. They will eat your aptaisia but if they eat your infauna also then whats the point of the kit?

That is why I don't have peppermint shrimp. I like the tube worms all over the rock. I will feed it the kalk mixture or take the rock out and put a little boiling water on it. It is on a small piece of rock that is easy to get out. I'm just glad that I got rid of the other two that came with it easily.

I realize there are two basic groups of people that have had dealings with IPSF: 1) those who have never have problems with IPSF and love the products, and 2) those that IPSF apparently seems to blow off.

If nearly any other vendor had significant problems with sending aiptasia they would have gotten a lot of bad press here at RC. But it appears that Sledog is the first person to say anything aloud. Has IPSF achieved "goldenboy" status to the point where no one has dared to criticize them, even if it is positive criticism? Has anyone contacted Gerald to make a comment about the unwanted hitch hikers? Over the last year we have torn down many false gods (Combisan, Marine Snow, etc.) have we only erected new ones in their place?

No Gods...just good products and good service from Gerald. I would recommed IPSF to anyone.

Well said, SciGuy2. I've been pretty heated about this over the past 6 months, but I've refrained from stating anything too overtly due to the overwhelming support for IPSF on RC. Negative threads about IPSF are usually met pretty agressively. So, when people ask about IA or IPSF, I say IA and also point out some of the alternative vendors like Bill's Reef.

It's pretty frustrating that I still haven't put corals in my tank primarily due to needing to get the Aiptasia under control that came in with my order. To an extent, I blame myself for not being more educated about Aiptasia when the order came in, but I really don't think I would have looked for Aiptasia in a detritivore kit even if I was more educated. If I had seen this thread, Borneman's thread, or a few of Snailman's posts, I doubt I would have ordered from IPSF.

That's all you guys got was aptasia? I must be special... I got red flat worms as well.

I sent them an email about the intruders and they replied that although they screen their products the occasional pest gets through as well.

Had I dumped the kit in my main tank I would have been extremely ****ed. I placed them in culture tanks and a refugium that I was able to shut down until I eradicated the pest. So far so good.

I doubt I'll use there service in the future.

I guess we could be the oddity:) we didn't get any apista, that we have seen. We did get a smail xenia one of the whitish varieties. Also a nudibranch? he was a little pinky, can with e the snails, I think The wife put everything in so not sure what can with what.

got the kit on Tuesday, and spotted the aiptasia in the halimeda today. yanked it and put it in another tank, but I'm not hopeful the halimeda will survive, and it was doing well too. :(

I have terminated 4 aiptasia that came with my IPSF order, so far. I'm hoping that is it but in reality I'll probably see tentacles appearing from under impossible to remove rock in a few weeks. I watched one slowly walk across the glass over a period of a week, leaving a trail of baby aiptasia behind it.

I also got feather caulerpa imported as teeny sprigs in the live sand. It has sprung up in several places in my tank and it is difficult to remove because it appears capable of growing back from tiny remnants. It's pretty and grows fast but this tank is intended for caulerpa-sensitive coral so it has got to go.

On the other hand, the animals that IPSF sent have proven very durable. I got over 36 snails and a month later I can only confirm the death of one. I've also noticed a nice "bloom" of a variety of pods since adding the sand activator and mud. He was generous with the amount of animals sent and there were no DOAs.

You get a few devils with the angels, perhaps. I should of quarantined and I'm not going to blame IPSF for my laziness. Overall, I'm happy with their products and would recommend them. On the other hand, he should make the effort to rid his systems of those little brown anemones, and his business will probably suffer in the long run as people switch over to IA and others.
