What do you use to raise the skimmer in the sump, I'm looking at probably a 3-4" raise.

An eggcrate base with PVC legs. Tie the PVC legs with zip ties.

that seems like you would get a lot of vibration

I would go to my local plastics mart and have an acrylic "U" made up to serve as a shelf for the skimmer. They literally melt and bend the acrylic so it would be all one piece... Would be very sturdy, look very professional, and match the skimmer and cost would be marginal (at least here in L.A.—around $20-$30)

I have heard a big difference in what the water height should the skimmer sit in, anywhere from 5-8". With the ES-5, what would be the optimal depth? My sump level is constant so I can set the height at whatever I want.

I made a stand completely out of pvc, 6" tall, for my CS6-1. Mine will be sitting in 8" of water. It's very strudy, but as for vibration... Im not sure yet because I'm still setting up my sump.
