250w HQI bulb with broken outside glass. Will it still work?

I just broke the outside glass on a new 250w HQI bulb installing it into my PFO pendent. The amount I broke is a very small hole and the light still works but my question is will this affect performance? That installation sure is tricky and it doesn’t take much to break those lights. You would think that those clips the light goes into wouldn’t be as hard as they are. I bet I’m not the only one that did before this.

Even if it will still light, don't do it. I killed everything in the upper third of my tank when the outer shield of a halide shattered (and still lit -and ran for a very few hours) and severely damaged all the rest of the animals. Bad, bad thing. U.V. fried the whole fried.
