Hi Dr. Ron,

I see these pods all the time during the day. When the lights are on i can see them a few cm under the sand, digging away. These do not look anything like the normal amphipods that I have, nor do they look anything like the dreaded predatory I-pods. So, do you know what this is?

Drewman,

Do a search under tanaids, I think you should be able to find info. Don't worry these are not bad guys.

Ron,

Hi,

Of course, I am a good mood. Why shouldn't I be... (Don't ask).

I just answered what was asked.....

Kevin is right, of course. [thanks] they are tanaids. I have written an article about them that will be published soon, I hope.

They are harmless, micropredators or detritivores.

:)
