Hi,

I tried to search this but nothing is coming up. I want to remove the foam filter on my skimmer. Anybody know of any modifications that can be done to do this?

Thanks!

I have the CS8-2 model, but I belive most Euroreefs are similar in design. I simply removed the foam, and it worked the same, expect it was louder, and caused some spray and bubbles. I solved those problems by using a plastic bottle, cut off the top, and cut a 1/4" slit up the side to act as a siphon break, over the top of the outflow tube. The waterline should be above the bottom(use to be the top of the bottle) and below the top of the slit. It works great and is really easy to do.

If the above is too confusing, I can try take a picture.

Other people have added pipe length and a valve, but that's too much work for me :)

Do you guys think the foam might be some what of a nitrate producer? Is there some other reason you would want to remove it?

TIA

Yes, I do, unless it were cleaned daily.

It would trap whatever pods, eggs, and larva that might make it through the skimmer.

Capt.Dave,

If it would not be too much trouble, a pic would be much appreciated.

Here it is, not pretty, but functional, the water sheets down the sides of the bottle.

Let me know how it works out for you, it's my own invention :)
