Thanks to tropical storm Gaston, I'm stranded in Myrtle Beach for at least another day....but in the meantime, I thought I'd post this here to see if there's anything out there. I'm looking for a used skimmer that's rated for a larger tank. I need one for a stock tank system that will run in the neighborhood of 150 to 200 gallons that I'm setting up to cure some live rock. Anyone with one, or info on something I might be interested in LMK. Thanks.

Jeff

I've got a Skilter around if you want it. I'd let it go for $100.

Looking for a GOOD used skimmer

When I read the tag title on the post I laughed and thought "The good ones are never for sale"

Just to toss out my opinion. Look at the contact time. You want the water to stay in the skimmer for 2 minutes. So for 200 gallons you want run about 200 gallons an hour through the skimmer. 2 minutes equils to 30 turnovers of the water volume an hour. So 200 divided by 30 equils a volume of 6.66 gallons. A 8 inch tube should be about 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall to get that volume.
The problem you will run into is most skimmers will try to run to much water through the skimmer. Look for one that has a lower flow rate. Idealy you would look for a recirculating skimmer that lets you control flow and bubble production seperately. If you are looking a new skimmer try a ASM G-5 for about $529 or try looking at GEO skimmers

Sorry to go on but I have been researching and shopping skimmers for about a month and my brain is overflowing. Good luck
