Hi everyone, I have this red stuff growing in my rocks and a couple of dead corals, and I don't know if it's the good coralline stuff or some ugly algae, and weather or not I should leave it alone... Here's the pictures (first try...)

This is a piece of dead coral I got with the tank

This is live rock and the tail of my dear Nasso Tang

Same rock...

Parameters are all fine except for a little high nitrates, working on those already, but right now it is a FO tank, with a few pieces of LR, and I want to start adding more LR and my Skimmer soon...

Hope you can see them!
Thanks in advance!

The top looks like corraline. the second picture looks like red slime.

Any way to know for sure what it is? Or do you need more and better pictures? These were taken with my palm Z71 so they're not great...

If you can rub it off, its red cyanobacteria, AKA red algea, bad stuff. If your going to put more LR in when you ALREADY have fish, make sure its already 100% cycled, other wise the ammonia spike will kill everything in your tank...

SO what would be a good test? Just try and rub it off with my finger? If it is algae, how should I get rid of it?

Ok, but if it's coralline, it's supposed to be good, so won't I hurt it?

Coralline is short growing and has an abrasive feel to it as it is a calcifying coral. The others, such as red slime and hair alga have the usually slippery feel like algae that grows in a FW tank. And yes, you want coralline in your tank.
