keeping excessive nutrients off the bottom of the tank will help keep the numbers down but they are harmless and actually good for the tank so why limit them?

Like Dragon_slayer, I don't know why you would want them out! I have many and they are a big benefit to the ecology of the tank system!!

How did it kill a monti? They are suspension feeders. My thinking is that if you have enough organics in your tank to cause the population to explode then conditions probably aren't ideal for SPS. I'm not saying that it's impossible that it happened, because you are the one that saw it, not me. I just think that it is very unlikely and I'm curious how you drew the connection.

my 29g system has allot of em in it and they even find themselves right up next to Monti's as well as other acros and never has there ever been a problem. i don't see this as being what killed your coral, most likely the excessive nutrients that are causing the population explosion.

it didnt kill the hole thing. the worms arms were around a small part of the cap near the rim. That area seemed to be recending from the skeleton, or at least bleaching, so i fraged it to prevent further damage, and sucked the worm out of the rock. Now if I seem them in my rock I am nervous for my corals. I do feed on the heavy side, but my sps are doing well, and my levels are all where they should be.

There are some fish that eat worms... But they might get some of your other inverts too...

Add a couple cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp. The shrimp will scour the sandbed for food. Worms are part of the food web.

i don't think adding shrimp will decrees the population of spaghetti worms by any measurable means. I've got close to 30 pep's and a pair of scarlet cleaners in my 180g and still have plenty of the spaghetti worms as well.

Are we even sure we're talking about spag worms here? I've had hundreds of them in my tank ever since I first got started, and never have had a problem. I'm not going to say it's impossible either, but I think it's very unlikely that one of them directly caused a coral to die.
