Need a bit of advice deciding if this is the way to go……

I am thinking of going with a SCWD for my 29 coming from a MAG5 return 4’ away.

Does anyone see an issue with the pump size? I will have this on a non drilled 29 with a power head or two behind LR as well for internal current….

Thank you for your input SCWD owners!

I use a mag 7/SCWD on my 40g which is also 4' up but that isn't all your pump has to push. Each 90 degree bend adds 1' head as well. I get decent flow and have one maxi jet 900 in there as well. It kindda depends on what you want to keep in your tank. I would plumb it so it can easily be changedd to a 7 if you don't like the amount of flow bc there will wont be a lot. Gl either way.

Go with a Mag 7. Like SD already said the head pressure, bends, elbows etc., will slow down the flow quite a bit. The SCWD also slows down the flow quite a bit.

You'll lose 20% of the flow right off the bat with the SCWD. Then add in a little more for each restriction or pipe fitting. Probably better to go with a larger pump like a 7 or 9.5 or I prefer the QuietOne pumps myself as they really are quiet and I can comfortably lay my hand on my 4000 which is mounted externally so they don't run hot either.

Go with mag 7 or 9.5. That setup will loose lots of flow. The other alternative is to use a small pressure rated pump. They perform MUCH better against the resistance of a SCWD.

I use a mag9.5 with a SCWD (closed loop) on a 25 gal
