40g + 8g sump FOwDR tank. Cycling 38 days. Ammon 0, nitrites and -ates thru the roof (still). Temp is only 77F... maybe that's extending the cycle time? Worth cranking it up to say, 81-82?

I've read that upping the temp a little will decrease the cycle time, not sure though. I think I remember reading that you can't get LR in New Zealand, bummer. Maybe you could get some established water from a friend's healthy tank or a LFS or even from the ocean if you're close. That water will have all the helpful bacteria. Just make sure it doesn't have any copper in it. Some people feed their tank, just like there were fish in it, to get the cycle boosted. HTH

I do live close to the sea; and it's very clean.... its only about 14deg C tho... and wasn't sure if I should be introducing things into my tank I shouldn't be....
