Hello,
I am in Clarksville for two weeks training. I was just wondering if there were any good fish stores in town.

Thanks,
David West

Downtown Aquatics is on Franklin Street across from the Black Horse Pub. They have some stuff, most sells out the day it comes in.

Pet Palace is on "the by-pass". They have some stuff too, but again, most sells out right out of the shipping box.

L&L on 41 A has mostly fish. They sell Moorish Idols if that give you an idea of what they are like.

Thanks for the info!
That will give me a chance to get out and just kill some time in my favorite way!

Preciate it!

pet palace is currently the best in town. make sure you talk to kaleb if you go in. he is the closest to a SW expert you will get in there.

i was there today. Caleb (however you spell it) has a nice demo reef in the store set up as you enter the saltwater area

Yeah,
I talked to him last week. He seems like he is really trying to get some coral business going. He just seems like he is learning as he goes and trying to take it one day at a time. I had a really good talk with him last week, and if he would devote one tank to soft corals with power compact or VHO lighting, and then work on one with halides to eventually build up to an sps tank.

Pet Palace has a very nice store, and it seems that if he stays with it and Sissy? gives him a little latitude, he could build up a nice little market within a year or so.

The only thing that has dissapointed me is the overall variety of fish and corals that I have seen in the two stores. I guess that comes with time and building a good relationship with suppliers. L and L did have a nice selection of angels, tangd, and butterflies, but most of them had no business being in a tank less than 150g much less in theirs. They really have no idea what they are getting in. She told me today she could order me a Black Tang for 25$ or so. I would love to pay that for a 300$ fish! Someone ought to try taking her up on it.

Anyway, enough rambling from a Bama boy. I have enjoyed my time up here and thanks for the help. Good luck growing the hobby in years to come!
Thanks for taking your time to help,
David

PS If anyone has not met Eric K, or seen his 700g system, you should get Claeb to hook you up. He is in the early stages of developing it, but it could be a real cornerstone for Clarksville reefers for years to come.

as for the $25 black tang: NO!! they get their fish so cheap that they can be sold for that. and if they get them that cheap it kinda makes one wounder how. well i know where the fish come from and do not promote that type of fish gathering. i would ranter pay $300 for a $300 fish than $25.
kaleb is going on vacation starting in the morning so all be carefull getting SW unless you know the person you are talking to, or unless it is Mimi or Shane.
