FRAG SWAP! FRAG SWAP! FRAG SWAP!
It’s finally time! Our yearly frag swap has come! CORA will be holding the 2004 7th All-Ohio Frag Swap on September 26th, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio. The event will take place at the Holiday Inn East located at 4560 Hilton Corporate Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43232 starting at 12:00 PM and ending at 4:00 PM. The Holiday Inn East has a large 2500 sq. event room which will be plenty to hold everyone and their corals, not to mention free parking! For those who would like a break from the swap activities there is a nice bar and restaurant located at the Holiday Inn.

The swap will have an admission charge of $5. This admission charge will cover you and any spouse or child you would like to bring. We will include 3 raffle tickets with the price of admission. The cost of admission will cover the costs of the event and allow us to bring you excellent goods to raffle off.

At 3:15 we will be holding our raffle. Raffle tickets will be available for $1 prior to the raffle. Items will include corals from Dr. Mac and Sons and PhishyBusiness, gift certificates from ReefScience and many more great items

We highly recommend the trading of corals, but if you are just starting off and need to get started I know there will be many hobbyists willing to sell.

We currently have numerous vendors attending:

PhishyBusiness.com
Premium Aquatics
Coral Dynamics, Inc.

With donations from:

PhishyBuisness
FragFarmer.com
ReefScience.com
Reefer Rocks
Dr. Mac and Sons Corals

And many many more……

If any vendors are interested in attending and you have not been contacted you must contact Rob Becker at rbecker@usrhome.com first. This is required or you will not be able to enter the event.

VHOS? I'll be looking for a few actinics for my freshly purchased ice cap 660.. 48" tank. Can't decided on either 4 24"s or 2 48".. My dilemma is an Oceanic tank with the glass divider int he middle.. Making me want to go with 24's.. Opinions? Trades? I'll get together my pathetic list here in a day or so..

chaetomorph,
If your want 4 bulbs, just go with 4 46.5" or 48" bulbs, or if you want two, two 46.5" or 48" bulbs. I have an oceanic 75 and that's how I did it. The divider doesn't do that much- as long as you keep it clean, and two 24" bulbs cost a lot more than 1 48" bulb.

I'd like to help you out with the bulbs, but don't have any actinics, and the aquasuns are already spoken for.

Maybe Premium Aquatics will be bringing some stuff like that. Send them an e-mail and you could probably at least save on shipping!!

This will be my 1st swap, I plan bringing a couple of large
GREEN finger frags, several toadstools, GSP colonies, maybe some orange/green zoos, possible BTA if I can pry one of them outa the tank.
How exactly does this work, should I pack all the stuff in bags in a cooler and carry it around, while I look at others, or do you make a list? whats the common way people handle to goods?

szwab
08/28/2004, 02:40 PM
there will be tables to set your frags on. You can also walk around with them (sometimes that works better) you can also check out the swap trade thread in the CORA forum. There are some trades already being made. The best I have found is to take pics of them in your tank so that everyone can see what they look like in tank lighting.

East Coast Clams is out of business. ReefScience bought my old domain name(not customer list[private info you know])
He then just docked it so when someone tries to go to ecc they get re-directed to ReefScience. Since I had to close the business, I had no use for the domain, and Chad seems like a real standup guy, so I sold the domain name only.

I got 10+ emails for people trying to buy my customer list, But I would never sell my customers email info.

As far as the swap goes I am hoping to make it but with the 2nd child freshly hatched it will be a toss up.

If I can come I am going to bring a 10 gallon nano, with frags and a light, it sure makes it easier for me to sell, trade when you can see the corals under light and tank conditions.

If I come I will probably bring cpative raised items from my prop tank like:

Red-Sea pom pom xenia
Leather frags
Colorfull Carribean Ricordeas.
Assorted sps frags.
Maybe a number of captive split rose anemones also.

Try the URI A4 ballast.

It's made by IceCap and has the same internals as the 660 except it only costs as much as a 430, cannot be modded to use a dimmer, and does not come with a heat sink plate (you can make your own with aluminum plate form home depot).

I just heard that Quality Corals (www.quality-corals.com) ask to participate in the frag swap and were told they could not attend??:sad2:

What's up with that? I though everyone was trying to make this swap as large and successful as possible?

They seem to have some really nice stuff and get rave reviews concerning the service from those that have bought from them. They are a Ohio vendor and were willing to come all the way from the Toledo area to attend.

I don't know who made this decision, but please reconsider...I really think they deserve our support as well.

Sharpy, we just can't fit everyone. I just got the email from Quality Corals yesterday morning asking to participate in the swap. It was nothing personal towards them just the fact that I had to cut off the vendors attending due to space. I hope you can understand.

this swap is shaping up to be a great one. We take steps with each swap getting better (hopefully) we learn with each one and try and build on that experience. Once we graduated from people's basements and livingrooms there was/is quite a financial commitment in getting this type of space. We are already talking about next year but we need to see what works and what doesn't if we need a bigger space or not. I'm sure there will be a comments thread either here or on our website corareef.org
We'll take everything into consideration. It is a balancing act when dealing with vendors, swappers, $$$, raffles, door prizes, and venues. Especially when we are trying for everyone attending to be satisfied swappers, vendors etc.

Acrosteve: it will be buzy but I think we have enough space. This is the largest space we've had so far.

http://www.cofba.org/users/zeppelin/LarrysFormula/saltwater%20tank/Tufa%20Rock/reef_ready_tufa_base_rock%20page.htm

If anyone is interested, bring a rubbermaid, or something to put some in, as I will not have any boxes.

We live in Erie, PA and don't have a local reef club. Can we come to your swap?

I have brought stuff home from as far away as Cleveland, do you think ir's feasible to bring stuff from Columbus (it's about a 4 1/2 hour drive). I am totally unprepared and don't have any frags. Will you guys have frags for sale, too?

Everybody is welcome, no matter the distance.

Bring a cooler, there will be lots of frags for sale. I would venture to say that you will not have any trouble finding a cooler full of good deals.

Just remember to plan for about 1 hour after you get home to acclimate your new corals.

Yeah, I'm thinking that if we leave there around 3:00 or so, that will give us time to drive home, get everything settled in, and still be functional for the daily grind on Monday.

Is there a website where I can get directions?

This swap is really picking up speed and is going to be a busy day. I know pretty much at each swap someone has come up with things missing. So I ask that everyone attending keep an eye on your things as well as the people around you.

Also please be considerate with things that you are bringing. Since we don't have a hard count on the number of people attending. We would like to get 2-3 people per table.

Should be a great day for all! See you on Sunday!!

Ya, the place is allot bigger. I think we have 40 tables, including a center isle of tables, and I'm pretty sure there is 12 feet of walking space around everything. Should be allot more comfortable for the people walking around with coolers, etc.
