I am sorry if this has been asked several times, but I was just wondering why a porites tends to "slime" itself over occasionally. Is this a natural tendency or something to start checking your water quality over?

I have a porites lobata (sp), and I noticed a couple times that it had a thin layer of skin that would disappear after the polyps would eventually push off the coral.

Thanks,
Zac

Its called a mucus tunic....we have another thread on them within the past few days and many in the forum over the years. Try a search using that term. I'd be happy to answer any additional questions on it, but I think the topic is pretty well covered already :-)
