I'm trying to decide between two lights. They are about the same price from Premium Aquatics.

1. two 250 DE Aqua Ocean Light pendants with remote magnetic ballasts
2. two 150 DE Aqua Spacelight pendants with internal electronic ballasts.

This will be for softies, LPS, eventually a clam.

On a related note, if they were the only lights would you go with the 10K or 20K?

that's a tough question. Softies usually don't do well under high lighting, however clams need very high lighting. depends on which you want more. If it were me I would go with the 20k's if it were the only lighting you have.

What about 14K DE?

Disagree that softies don't like high light. My softies were very happy under 2 250 watt MH in my 75 before I moved them(particularly the leathers). Mushrooms would be an exception to this and you can keep them under an overhang. I think it would be more accurate to say higher lighting is not neccessary for keeping softies. Just my 2 cents.
