This one just appeared. I think I saw a pic of one like it but can't remember where. It doesn't look much like the ones you guys said are majanos.http://reefcentral.com/gallery/data/500/65290another_anemone.JPG

I have a few of the same anemones and they haven't multiplied since I got the rock 2 months ago. I had some Aptasia on some other rock so I no its not that since the Aptasia tentacles never bubbled up like these.

Yup, that's the critter.
Are they good or bad?
Or just ugly?

I met up with Dale today and bought more rock. I spoke with him about this anemones. He told me that they are not aptasias, but will eat any small fish stupid enough to run into them. He says that they do not reproduce like aptasias. He's been doing this for 17 years. I'll try his way for a while with the new rock and see what happens.

While picking up a choice piece of rock, Dale picked off a small urchin and tossed him away. Contrary to my obervations, Dale says that these guys will eat coralline algae. He was surprised when I told him that mine hang out in the sand and on the glass.

Check out my tank. I now have 50 pounds of live sand and 100 pounds of live rock in my 55 gallon. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/487571/10

Edit: I know you mentioned the company from which you purchase the rock, but the name is gone now. Did someone delete some content?

I got it from Gulf Viw.
So Dale says it's a bad guy, huh? I have noticed white places where there was coraline. Maybe that's why. Guess they gotta go.
I have another post going about some anemones that came in on the rock, too.
Apparently Dale says they don't multiply, but I'm seeing more and more of them. They don't look like Aiptasias, some have said they are majanos or rock anemones and I should wage war on them.

It's a majano AKA lightbulb anemone. They are one in the same. The urchins do eat coralline, but in doing so they also spread it. Unless you have a large urchin and very little coralline it shouldn't give you any real problems.

So should I "wage war" on them? (majanos)
I don't want them taking over my tank.

Yes.
