Hello Doc,

The top is some sort of snail--I have hundreds of then in my tank, and they seem to constantly grow in numbers.

The bottom looks like a limpet. It moves like a snail and eats algae but it doesn't have a shell.

Here is a picture:

Thanks,

Hi,

To my untrained eye, it looks like a colonista snail. But, for a positive ID, the Doc would probably want a crisp, detailed shot of the opening on the bottom of the shell.

His May column (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rs/index.htm) has more info on these guys and their close cousins in the snail world.

Hi,

Masoch is probably correct on his identification ([thanks]).

The second animal is a Stomatella varia; the whitish-light gray parts to the animal are the shell. :D

Both of these animals are beneficial grazers.

See the linked column for more information about both of these animals
