What's up Doc? (Poor attempt at humor)
I have a tank that is around the 2 month mark. I recently battled green hair and won, but now brown hair is taking over and I don't know what to do.
My params are:
P04: 0
Trate/Trite: 0
Amm: 0
Ph: 8.0
SG: 1.025
Temp: 79 thanks to a new chiller!
Calc: 350-400
Anything else I missed?
Oh, here's a picture from about a week or two ago of the problem.

Hi T. J.,

Looks like diatoms; these single celled algae hang together to form long filaments. Have patience. This, too, shall pass.

Most tanks go through a diatom phase. Most any of the grazing snails (see my columns in the May, 2004 issue of [rk]) will eat this stuff. Stomatella varia are probably the best as long as you don't any shrimp or crabs. Otherwise grazing urchins willl do to.

These algae are sequesting and living off of dissolved nutrients and the final overall cure involves getting the DSB fully functional (which takes a few months) and skimming well.

Good luck, and don't have too much angst about it. :D
