Hi,

<img src="/images/welcome.gif" width="500" height="62"><br><b><i><big><big>To Reef Central</b></i></big></big>

It is a Murex, probably Murex pecten, a relatively common predatory animal found in the Indo-Pacific.

As a shell, it would just be a spiny rock in your aquarium and would be relatively innocuous. If it were alive, it would likely eat anything it could catch, and would bore through the shells and eat clams or snails.

:D

Thanks for a reply and the welcome, been reading the forums quite a bit in the last few months. With the wealth of information out there i knew somebody had to know what it is. I got it as a present from i friend and i figure this has to be more interesting to look at than the faux coral im always getting as presents. (i have more of it then i know what to do with, :) )
