I just hooked up a red sea 100 Set at 25%. The ORP started at 176. . In two days the ORP reached 350 and the aqua controller turned the ozone off. The ORP kept rising to 400. The last three days the ORP moves between 370 and 400.

I expected it to drop then the reactor brings it in a cycle like tenp or pH.

Or not?

Has anyone had this experience?

tanks will after being bumped up in ORP have a tendancy to stay at those levels until you do something to change them like a water change, the daily flucuations are about normal for what you posted. i've never bumped up a system that fast and would not recommend it, your far better off letting the tank come up about 50mv per week.

Thanks for your reply.

yes, I didn't intend to bump it that fast.

Thats a good unit with the built in controller. What I dont like about them is that you cannot take apart the CD cell for cleaning.
Good thing you had the controller! Many people have "cooked" their tanks with ozone. Its strong stuff.
Dont let it get above 450mV. Also, watch for possible coral bleaching with the sudden rise in ORP. It will make the water super clear, and they can get light shock.
Could you tell a dramatic difference in water clarity?

I know ORP has to do with ozone, but can anyone tell me what ORP is specifically? Doesnt Ozone disapate almost imidiatly? IE< you run an ozone generator 24/7?
(assuming its not powerful enough to OD)

can someone lend a hand? ORP isnt listed in the acronyms page.

I think ORP stands for oxidation/redux potential, but I'm not sure. I also think it has something to do with how many atoms in the water have extra or "want" more electrons.

I've run my Red Sea AquaZone Plus 200 at full strenght from day one. My orp started around 200 and begins the day around 320 and ends the day at 350. It runs 24/7.

So wahts up? I started this thread 7/18. Sine that post the ORP has stayed at the 400 to 425 level. AC pro. New Probe.

I have done one water change since. My new ozone reactor hasen't been on at all. Whats the deal. Will it ever come down again?

I've heard that some people only need to run ozone once a month...

Is your PH on the low side?

Salsini

8.1 to 8.3 low in the mornings?

BigDaddy

No, that's not low.

But, as the Ph goes down the ORP goes up.

Not to hijack the thread or anything... But I'm also new to ozone. From what I've heard, you inject ozone into your protein skimmer. I'm running a remora pro and don't have that capability.

What would you recommend and which piece of equipment to perform that recommended task?

on my urchin pro (just an in sump remora) the O3 is injected via an airstone placed down into the reaction chamber of the skimmer. i feed the tube down through the collection cup, others have drilled a hole to place the tube in.

Any particular unit you recommend? Brand of airstone? I'd like to use ozone. I want to get the maximum amount of light to my corals and heave some really clear water.

I clean the ORP probe once a week (set it in a cup of vinager for 10 min). You may find that your ORP is reading a little higher than it actually is.on my urchin pro (just an in sump remora) the O3 is injected via an airstone placed down into the reaction chamber of the skimmer. i feed the tube down through the collection cup, others have drilled a hole to place the tube in.
I did not like the way the ozone affected the skimate production in my Remora, so I put my old Prizm back on and have it dedicated to the ozone. Any skimmate that is produced by the Prizm is just gravy (wait a minute...that doesn't sound right :D ). Anyway, if you have room for it, picking up a cheap-o skimmer (i.e. a visi-jet for $30) just for the ozone would be another way to go.

you come out far cheaper if you pick up an O3 generator designed for use in a home spa rather then one designed around a reef/aquarium system. they will most of the time come with a few airstones as well, they are considerably larger then the standard aquarium airstone but made similar in material.
